The Homunculus Nebula is a bipolar cloud of gas and dust surrounding the massive star system Eta Carinae, formed during its Great Eruption in the 19th century. Shaped like an hourglass, it consists of two expanding lobes and a central disk, stretching several light-years across. The nebula, enriched with stellar material, obscures Eta Carinaeβs light but shines brightly in infrared and visible wavelengths. Its continuing expansion provides key insights into stellar mass ejection, the evolution of massive stars, and the dynamics of nebular formation.
