Canyonlands National Park is shaped by the Colorado River and the Green River, which meet at The Confluence in the Needles district. These rivers carve the parkβs dramatic landscapes, dividing it into four districts: Island in the Sky, The Needles, The Maze, and the Rivers. Over millions of years, their erosion has created the parkβs deep canyons, mesas, and buttes. After joining, the rivers flow south as the Colorado River. They also offer recreational activities like rafting and provide vital ecological and scenic value to the park.
